Sue was a member of First Baptist Church in Florence for over sixty years. She loved her church family and was very active in her younger years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. Sue lived her life as a ‘Christ-Like” example, showing love and compassion in service to her family and friends. Her sweet smile and happy, bubbling personality radiated to others and she rarely met a stranger.
Sue and A.W. Hammonds belonged to a corporation which opened many movie theaters across Alabama. They later opened Style-Rite Fabrics in North Florence.
Because of Sue’s love for people and her community, she joined the American Business Women’s Association and was later voted “Business Woman of the Year” in 1975.
She was an excellent seamstress and made beautiful clothes for her family. She also loved to cook for her family and friends who especially enjoyed her delicious home made biscuits and rolls.
All who knew her grew to love and respect her; she left a mark on each heart she touched.
We give you back to the Lord now mother with hearts full of gratefulness for the many ways in which you’ve enriched all our lives. Your memory will go on forever. We love you.
The family expresses a special thank you to Lois Eaton, her loving sitter for several years, and also to the wonderful staff at the Cottage of the Shoals for taking such loving care of her.
