Steven Ray Gilchrist, 67, of Waterloo, passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Visitation will be Thursday, November 9th, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Central Heights. The funeral service will be Friday, November 10th, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Larry Burbank and Brother Wayne Wood officiating. Interment will be in Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery.
Steve was a native of Waterloo and was a retired Lumber Grader with Hassell & Hughes for almost 42 years. He was the pastor of Piney Grove Church for seven years and pastored several churches in Alabama and Tennessee over the years. Steve was a talented musician and loved to play the guitar, mandolin, and violin. He loved Jesus and the church with all his heart.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Young Gilchrist and parents, Robert and Ressie Gilchrist. He is survived by his son, Kenneth Gilchrist and brother, Roger Gilchrist.
Pallbearers will be Roger Gilchrist, Donnie Young, Travis Young, Larry Clemons, David Haddock, and Randy Johnson.
