Beloved husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, Steven Michael Bibee, died unexpectedly on December 25, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama. Steve was born in Akron, Ohio, but spent most of his life in the Southeast. He graduated from Berry High School in Birmingham before going on to earn a degree in Physics from The University of Alabama, Birmingham in 1978 and finished his Master’s of Business Administration in 1990 at the University of Alabama. A life-long learner, Steve worked in information technologies for South Central Bell, TVA, and NASA and retired from Gartner in 2019. A true renaissance man, his interests and hobbies were vast: history, reading, fishing, hunting, writing, cooking, singing in church and community choirs, and working with drug and alcohol addictions services through the SOFAR Ministry in Guntersville, Alabama. For the last 47 years, Steve and his buddies went on annual fishing trips all over the western hemisphere. Throughout his life, Steve was a voracious reader and a devoted man of faith. He led many Bible studies over the years and never shied away from a conversation on faith, history, literature, politics, or Auburn football. Steve loved writing and to date had finished a novella, many essays on his life, and poems on his faith.
Most importantly, Steve was a devoted family man. His three younger siblings, Bruce, Brenda, and Sharon were some of his favorite people to walk through life with. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Martha Battle Bibee, for 48 years. Steve and Marty raised two devoted daughters who loved him deeply. He enjoyed annual trips with family and loved spending time with his beautiful grandchildren. His grandchildren called him Grumpy, which was antithetical to his loving relationship with them.
He was predeceased by his father, Michael Bibee. Surviving members of his family include his mother, Janet Bibee, his brother, Bruce Bibee (Theresa), and his sisters, Brenda Smith (Steve) and Sharon Bibee; his daughters Elizabeth Bibee Stiles (Rusty) and Rebecca Bibee; his wife Martha Battle Bibee, his grandchildren Olivia and Reid Stiles, and seven nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his fishing buddies and brothers in spirit, Greg Morgan, Hill Morgan, Chan Aldridge, and Paul Hammock.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Visitation will be at 10:30 in the Narthex, with the service beginning at 11:30.
Those who wish to remember Steve in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the American Stroke Association, https://www.stroke.org/, Trinity United Methodist Church, www.trinityhsv.org, or to the SOFAR Ministry through the Guntersville Methodist Church, www.gfumc.net.
