CDR Steven D. Tate, U.S. Navy (Retired), age 60 of Owens Cross Roads passed away Tuesday, January 2 at Huntsville Hospital. Born in New Orleans, LA, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force reaching the grade of Staff Sergeant. He was selected to attend Officer Candidate School and received his commission in the U.S. Navy. CDR Tate deployed to Desert Shield/Desert Storm as the Commanding Officer of Fleet Marine Force Company. Other assignments included Assistant Director, Naval Medical Clinic Pearl Harbor; Plans and Operations Officer, U.S Joint Forces Command; Commander Surgeon Deputy, U.S. Forces Korea; Senior Planner, Headquarters, United States Marine Corps; Chief Plans and Strategy, Joint Chiefs of Staff, J4.
CDR Tate earned his Masters Degree in National Security and Strategy from the Naval Command and Staff College, Newport, RI. Following his retirement from active duty, CDR Tate relocated to Huntsville, AL and worked at the Missile Defense Agency.
CDR Tate is lovingly remembered by his wife, Christine Tate; his daughter, Virginia Gayle Prillhart, husband James, two grandchildren, William Evan Robinson and Madelyn Grace Robinson of Tupelo, MS.; his son, Jeremy Alan Tate of St. Joseph, MO; brother, William Eugene Tate, Jr. wife Deanna of Hattiesburg, MS; sister Nancy Tate Watts husband Paul of Gulfport, MS.
Funeral services for CDR Steven D. Tate, U.S. Navy (Retired), age 60 of Owens Cross Roads, will be held on Sunday, January 7, from 2:00p.m. until 4:00p.m., at Hampton Cove Funeral Home (Rt 431). Funeral Service with full military honors is planned at Arlington National Cemetery.
