A native and lifelong resident of Maury County, Steve was born on October 1, 1948 at the Kings Daughters Hospital. He was the son of the late Green Freeland Loftin, Sr. and the late Johnnie Overstreet Loftin. He attended Maury County Schools and was a 1966 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He was employed at Union Carbide from 1966 – 1971. As a teenager, Steve developed a tremendous love for motorcycles which led him to become the co-owner of the first Kawasaki motorcycle dealership in Maury County at the age of twenty-five. As a hobby, he hand built a rare “easy rider” style motorbike and three wheel bike in the 1970s. Because of his love of motorcycles, Steve will take his final ride to his eternal rest in the Heritage Funeral Home Harley Davidson Tombstone Hearse.

Mr. Loftin had a natural talent for woodworking, having built his own homes and numerous pieces of furniture for relatives throughout his life. Steve was born a salesman. He loved to talk and always had an interesting story to tell. Nothing delighted him more than closing a sale with a handshake and a smile. A reputation of generosity and mentorship earned him many devoted customers and friends. Steve recently fostered his amazing artistic abilities. He spent much of his time avidly painting miniatures. Mr. Loftin was an outdoorsman who loved fishing especially with his brother, Nick, and trail riding with his family and friends. He also enjoyed flying and had a pilot’s license.

His ancestors were early settlers of Maury County. He proudly boasted that he and his family are direct descendants of a Revolutionary War soldier, Longfellow Loftin and Civil War soldier, Nathaniel Greene Rieves. Mr. Loftin was a long time member of the Union Grove Presbyterian Church serving as elder for many years.

He is survived by his daughters: Valarie Camille (Eric) Harding of Smyrna, Natalie Nicole Monroe of Nashville, Hannah Jay Loftin who lovingly attended his every care and need; precious grandchildren: Corinah Harding, Amory Harding, and MacLean Monroe; and niece: Niki Jay Loftin Sigler.  A genuine, lifetime pet lover, Steve leaves two loyal four-legged companions: Otis and Jetta.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only son: Robert Stephen Loftin on September 3, 1991; grandparents: Berry & Jenny Griffin Overstreet and James & Ura Rieves Loftin; brother: Green Freeland “Nick” Loftin, Jr.; devoted aunts and uncles:  James Alfred “Alf” Loftin, Nell Stockton, Leona Young, Nannie Smith, and Hazel Dooley whom he adored and spent much of his carefree childhood.

Pallbearers will be Eric Harding, Enoch George, Garrett Lunn, Jim Poling, Larry Kraus, Rick Points, Alan Field, and Keith Baker.  Honorary pallbearers will include: Nancy Loftin, the mother of Valarie and Robert, Lynn Loftin, the mother of Natalie and Hannah, Rhonda Lunn, the mother of Racheal, Tyler, and Garrett, Ron & Beverly Harding, Randy, Shirley, and Roxanne Wright, John Russell Primm, Marvin Fautt, Cindy Crigger, Martha Lunn Jones, his neighbors and friends of Iron Bridge Road and Rock Spring Communities, Union Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church members, and all of his business associates.
