Stephen Eugene Merritt, born June 20, 1952 in Cape Girardeau, MO passed away peacefully September 28, 2024 at his home in Smyrna, TN. He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Sue Drerup Holland (Charles), his father Allen B. Merritt Jr. and his brother Allen B. Merritt III. He is survived by his son Allen B. Merritt IV, daughter Sarah Merritt Wright (Cody), 2 grandsons Elijah and Thomas Wright, his two brothers Don Merritt (Teri) and John David Merritt (Sherry), his beloved cat Max, his former wife and mother of his children Lisa Merritt as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Before his stroke, Steve enjoyed playing pool and golf with his buddies, cooking delicious meals in the kitchen and visiting every grocery store within a 10-mile radius of his house. He spent most of his adult career building a successful home entertainment and audio equipment business with his two business partners. He loved online shopping, any kind of gadget, Hallmark Christmas movies year-round and had an insatiable sweet-tooth. A memorial gathering will be held at Woodfin funeral home in Smyrna, TN on Saturday, October 12th from 2-4pm. The family wishes to offer their sincere gratitude to the staff of Traditions in Smyrna, TN for taking such great care of Steve over the past couple of years.
