Step-Son Charged With Attempted Murder In Tuscumbia

TUSCUMBIA-On Sunday, April 21 Tuscumbia Police responded to a call at 406 South Cave Street around 4:15 PM.

According to court records when police arrived at the scene, they encounter the resident of the address, Myron Smith who claimed his stepson, Chandler Pruitt, entered the residence and began threatening him on ongoing issues between Smith and Chandler Pruitt’s mother.

Smith said he asked Pruitt to leave the residence, after which Pruitt fired a a gun at Smith.  Smith was prompted to return

fire at this point. According to Smith Pruitt fled the scene in a black Chevrolet Malibu.  Officers later found the vehicle parked in front of Deshler Manor.

Officers questioned Pruitt at which time he told the officers Smith pulled a gun,  at which time Pruitt says he fires a single shot which he called a “blank round”.  Police discovered two live rounds had been fired from the weapon in Pruitt’s possession.

Investigators arrested Pruitt charging him with Reckless Endangerment and Attempted Murder.

Authorities say this investigation is ongoing.
