FLORENCE- Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Florence Parks and Recreation, North Alabama Medical Center, Florence City Schools and the National Fitness Campaign (NFC) are proud to announce a partnership to bring an outdoor Fitness Court® and digital wellness programming for Martin Park.
The Fitness Court, located at 420 N. Royal Ave. will open on Tuesday, May 2, at 3:00 pm
with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and launch event. Residents are invited to attend and try out the Fitness Court®.
This Fitness Court was developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets people use their body weight to complete a workout using seven exercise stations.
Workouts are created for people of all abilities aged 14+ and are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users may download the free Fitness Court App, which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“We continue to focus on providing Alabamians access to the resources they need so they can live the healthiest lives possible,” said Sophie Martin, director of corporate communications and community relations, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. “We are privileged to partner with the City of Florence Parks and Recreation Department, North Alabama Medical Center, and Florence City Board of Education to bring our Blue Cross sponsored Fitness Courts to Alabama. This dynamic platform will provide residents and the community an innovative avenue to get healthier.”
Mayor Andrew Betterton remarked, “The outdoor fitness court at Martin Park is an exceptional and unique addition to the many recreational opportunities offered within the City of Florence. I am grateful to our project partners for their passion to create and maintain a healthy community environment for our citizens, and I am proud of the hard work of the Parks and Recreation Department.” Martin Park is one of 15 outdoor Fitness Courts in a series of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama Fitness Courts in easily accessible public spaces throughout the state.
Bill Jordan, Florence Parks & Recreation Director, expressed his gratitude, “We are grateful to our project partners, Florence City Schools, North Alabama Medical Center, and NFC for their generosity in helping us offer this healthy environment for our community.
