Spencer “Clay” Conkle

Clay ConkleSpencer “Clay” Conkle, 28 of Rainsville, AL, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his home. Clay was a 2013 graduate of Fort Payne High School and received his bachelors in Exercise Science from the University of North Alabama in 2017. He played baseball and football at FPHS and still maintained strong friendships and bonds with his former teammates and coaches. He was an avid outdoorsman and was co-creator of Duck & Bone with his brother, Kyle. Clay loved his wife, Savannah, duck season, turkey season, deer season, a good pair of Costas and his camo Crocs.

Funeral services will be 12 noon on Saturday, December 30th at Wilson Funeral Home in Fort Payne with Pastor Randall Ham and Shannon Hilley officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 a.m. until the 12 noon hour of service. As you feel led, in lieu of flowers, please donate to Fort Payne First Methodist Church, Ducks Unlimited, or National Wildlife Turkey Federation in honor of Clay.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Savannah Lynn Conkle; parents, Greg and Dara Conkle; brother, Kyle Conkle and wife, Callan; nephew, Sam Conkle; parents-in-law, Ronald and Felicia Heard, Kent and Janice Garrett; brother-in-law, Dustin Heard; sister-in-law, Chelsea Boyd; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Coach Richard and Sarah Martin Conkle, James A. and Merle Gantt; and brother-in-law, Dane Boyd.

Wilson Funeral Home and Crematory of Fort Payne is in charge of arrangements.
