sleet rain snowTHE SHOALS-a  winter weather situation has been issued by The National Weather Service/Huntsville, AL on Sat, Mar 1, 2014, 8:40 PM CST for Lauderdale, AL;  Colbert, AL;  Franklin, AL;  Lawrence, AL;  Limestone, AL;  Madison, AL;  Morgan, AL; Marshall, AL;  Jackson, AL;  De Kalb, AL;  Cullman, AL;  Moore, TN;  Lincoln, TN;  Franklin, TN:
… FREEZING RAIN EXPECTED LATE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING…

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL DROP SOUTHEAST THROUGH THE TENNESSEE sleet weatherVALLEY SUNDAY NIGHT. AS IT DOES SO… RAIN WILL OVERSPREAD THE AREA DURING THE EVENING HOURS. SHARPLY COLDER AIR RUSHING IN BEHIND THE FRONT WILL CHANGE RAIN TO FREEZING RAIN AFTER MIDNIGHT IN FAR NORTHWEST ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE. THE FREEZING LINE WILL DROP SOUTHEAST MONDAY MORNING ALLOWING FOR A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF NORTH ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE BEFORE ENDING.

GROUND TEMPERATURES SHOULD BE TOO WARM TO SUPPORT SIGNIFICANT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ON ROAD SURFACES IN MOST LOCATIONS. HOWEVER… LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE ON ELEVATED OBJECTS. THE PRECIPITATION WILL THEN COME TO AN END LATE MONDAY MORNING.

THIS WEATHER SITUATION REMAINS QUITE UNCERTAIN… AND A VARIANCE IN HOW QUICKLY SUB-FREEZING AIR ARRIVES COULD ALTER THE EXPECTATIONS OF ICE ACCUMULATIONS. STAY TUNED FOR UPDATED FORECASTS THROUGH SUNDAY ON THIS POTENTIAL WINTER WEATHER SITUATION.
