Sonya Yvette Townsend – Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Sonya Yvette Townsend will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Progressive Christian Outreach Ministry with Pastor Arthur L. Warrior, officiating, inhumation to be determined.

Life began for Mrs. Sonya Yvette Townsend on February 19, 1976. She was born to Jeanette Brooks and the late Leo Collier in Decatur, Alabama.  She was preceded in death by her father, a brother, Leo Murray Brooks and her mother-in-law, Mary Townsend..  She departed this life on May 25, 2014 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus.

She was a 1994 graduate of Decatur High School.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior.

She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted and loving husband, Marlow Townsend of Decatur; one son, Jahiem D. Hambrick of Huntsville; three stepchildren, Ahreanua Lash (Rickey) of New York, Zeiera and Blake Townsend of Decatur; her mother, Jeanette Brooks Miller (Levi); three sisters, Cassandra, Katrina and Latisha Brooks of Decatur; two sisters-in-law, Dara Jackson (Greg) and Jan Rogers (Karl) of Decatur; two brothers-in-law, Willie Townsend Jr. of Decatur, and Terry Townsend (Meredith) of Courtland; father-in-law, Willie James Townsend, Sr. of Decatur; a special friend, Mary Davis and bingo buddy, Lisa Hill, also special to her was Deilah Johnson, and a devoted father-like figure, Albert Orr.  A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Percy Grays, Cameron Robinson, Marlon Collier, Darren Rice, James Grays and Aaron Strong.  Flower Bearers will be LaQuesha Jackson, Nicole Mitchell, Jasmine Grays, LaShunda King, Rosie Grays, Courtney Grays and Charlotte Grays.
