Sonya Benita Waire, age 63, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2024, at her residence.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. A visitation will also be held on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Born on November 1, 1960, in Maury County, Tennessee, Sonya was the daughter of the late John Horace Porter and the late Charlene Aquilla Grimes Porter. She was a 1979 graduate of Columbia Central High School and earned her associate degree in nursing from Columbia State Community College. She worked several years as a registered nurse for Maury Regional Medical Center and was a member of Carmack Boulevard Church of Christ. Sonya was a free spirited, caring person who had a beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She was very creative and enjoyed cross stitching and doing arts and crafts.
She is survived by her husband, Dwayne Waire, children, Brandon Waire of Columbia, Brooke Waire of Columbia, Leslie Waire of Nashville, Jaci Waire of Texas, siblings, Wendell Keith Porter of Texas, Revrey Amey of Columbia, Derric Porter of Columbia, grandchildren, Breyasmine Waire, Brandon Waire, Jr., Sophie Monroe Jones, Brielle Waire, uncle, Charles Grimes, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, one great great niece, one great great nephew, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Victor Polk.
