Songwriter Showcase To Be Performed On McCandless Hall Stage

ATHENS – Athens State University’s Center for Lifelong Learning is presenting The Story Behind the Song: A Songwriter’s Showcase.  The event will be held on Friday, November 11 at 6:30 p.m. in McCandless Hall on the Athens State campus.

Songwriters Phillip White, Monty Holmes, and Clint Daniels will be performing an array of award-winning songs they have written for such entertainers as George Strait, Rascal Flatts, Scotty McCreery, Darius Rucker, Kenny Rogers, Blake Shelton, Lee Ann Womack, George Jones, Brooks and Dunn, and many more.

White wrote Rascal Flatts’ “I’m Movin’ On,” which was voted Song of the Year by the Academy of Country Music.  He also wrote the theme song “I’m A Survivor” from the TV sitcom, Reba.  Holmes wrote “Troubadour,” from George Straight’s 2009 Grammy Award-winning Country Album of the Year.  Holmes was also the recipient of the Nashville Songwriters Association International’s “One of the 10 Songs I wish I had Written” Award and is a multiple BMI “Million-Air” with over one million live broadcast performances.  Daniels wrote Joe Nichols’ number 1 hit “Brokenheartsville” and has also written and recorded several Billboard hit singles.
