Sinurd A. Thorn, 94, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at his residence. He was born April 2, 1919 to the late David Riley Thorn and the late Lucy M. Smith Thorn. He Entered the Army in Feb. 1941 where he served in WWII in the 141st Field Artillery Unit, in the 7th and 5th Army. He was wounded twice and received a Purple Heart and the Oak Leaf Cluster. He was Communication Chief over Tidworth, England until he was discharged on Nov. 1945. He retired from Johnson Outboard Marine after 31 years of service. He was a member and Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church, past member of the Gideon’s, and trainer for the Boy Scout’s. He enjoyed woodworking, and loved spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Gwindola J. Thorn of Fulton, Son, Maynard L. (Patricia) Thorn of Fulton, Granddaughter, Melody (Stephen) Stroud of Huntsville, AL, Grandsons: Matthew J. Thorn, Michael L. Thorn of Fulton, Great-granddaughters: Mary and Anna Stroud of Huntsville, Sister, Audrey Cantrell of Tremont, Brother-in-law: Robert (Dot) Stevens of Raleigh, NC.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brothers: Elmer and Fred Thorn, Sisters: Ruby Stevens, Edna Thorn, Reba Thorn.
Pallbearers are Johnnie Graham, Jimmie Wilson, Charlie McCarthy, Larry Brown, Butch Jones, Matthew Thorn, Mikey Thorn.
