On Wednesday morning, January 11, 2022, Sidney Harold “Sid” Rainey, 85, lifetime resident of Ripley, passed away unexpectedly at his home.

Funeral Services remembering the life of Mr. Rainey will be at 2 PM Saturday, January 14 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home with Bro. Doc Shelton officiating. Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 2 PM on Saturday, January 14 at The Ripley Funeral Home. A private family burial will be in New Prospect Cemetery.

Mr. Rainey was born February 18, 1937 in Ripley and was the son of the late Fred and Fannie Bell Rainey. A graduate of Centre High School, he will be remembered as a big man with an even bigger heart who had a personality that was larger than life. He loved his family, enjoyed lasting friendships and offered help to anyone in need.

A regular member of the morning McDonald’s coffee club, Mr. Rainey loved “wheeling and dealing”, bargains and arguing with anyone until he was right. An avid outdoorsman, his passion was hooking up his pontoon and heading to the river to fish, camp and hunt.

Memories will continue to be shared by two daughters, Shelia Crum of Walnut and Sharon Mardis (Sammy) of Tiplersville, one son, Sidney Harold “Bubba”  Rainey, Jr. of Ripley, three grandchildren, Brandi Dildy (Dewayne), Michael Brown and Josh Mardis, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Benefield Rainey, four sisters, Billy Ruth Elder, Peggy Sue Garrett, Vanita Bryant and Virginia Swinford, two brothers, Gene Tate Rainey and Marshal Rainey and a great grandson, Jacob Brown
