DECATUR-The Decatur Police responded to a shots fired call and made the arrest of one suspect.   Here is a statement from the Decatur Police Department:

“SYNOPSIS OF OFFENSE & ARREST:
On 8/25/15 at 2:21pm, Decatur Police Officers at Shelton’s Funeral Home heard multiple gunshots coming from the parking lot of the Burger King on the Beltline. The Officers observed a car leaving the parking lot of the restaurant and a black male trying to get their attention.
Upon arrival at the scene, they found the victim’s car had been struck with gunfire. The suspect’s car was located at the Decatur Mall parking lot where they took Kimberly Avengowe into custody.
It was determined that the suspect and victim have a 4 month old child in common. The child had been visiting her father and he was giving the child back to it’s mother when a disturbance broke out between the couple.
The suspect then fired multiple rounds, striking the victim’s car.
Kimberly Avengowe of Huntsville has been charged with Discharging a Firearm into an Unoccupied Vehicle, a class “C” felony. Other charges are expected in the near future.
No one was struck by the gunfire.
Madison Co DHR has been notified of the situation and they are making sure the child is in safe hands.”
