Shoals Chamber of Commerce & Northwest-Shoals Community College Offer Career Education for Educator

THE SHOALS-The Shoals Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Northwest-Shoals Community College, is offering its annual Workforce Readiness Institute – Career Education for Educators on June 11-14 and June 18-20.  The Institute offers professional development opportunities for middle and high school math and science teachers, counselors and school administrators.

“Participants will network with local industry leaders, learn about career opportunities and discover more about how math and science are used in the workforce,” said Shoals Chamber Vice President of Workforce Readiness Stephanie Newland.

Industry tours include Alabama Robotics Technology Park; TVA Power Service Shops and Browns Ferry Nuclear plant; G&G Steel; Wilson Lock; OnPoint Manufacturing; Polaris; North American Lighting; Spry-Mitchell Farm; Walker Family Farms; Constellium; International Fertilizer Development Center; North Alabama Medical Center; TASUS; Applied Chemical Technologies; Freightcar America; Southwire 12 for Life; the Shoals Business Incubator; and Essity.

Educators will also tour the technical programs at Northwest-Shoals Community College to learn about the levels of math and science each career requires. Technical programs will include Computer Information Systems; Machine Tool; Welding; Industrial Systems Maintenance; Industrial Electronics; Nursing; EMS; Medical Assisting Technology; Ready-to-Work; Salon & Spa; Heating & Air; Auto Service & Collision; and Design Engineering.

This program is provided through grants and sponsorships from Listerhill Credit Union; Wells Fargo Foundation; Walmart in Muscle Shoals; North American Lighting; Constellium; Essity; Southwire; Spry-Mitchell Farms; Lauderdale County Farmers Federation; and Young Nuclear at TVA – Browns Ferry.

Twenty-nine public and private school educators make up the 2019 class.
