shoals chamber of commerceTHE SHOALS – April 22, 2015 – Tuesday, the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Lauderdale County Alabama Cooperative Extension office, provided the opportunity for 700 Shoals-area eleventh graders to speak with more than 50 exhibitors, representing employers and educational institutions, to learn about career paths available in the Shoals area and what steps to take to prepare for success.
This seventh-annual Shoals Career Days event was held at CrossPoint Church of Christ and allowed exhibitors to educate, influence and even recruit future employees. Many of these students will be the Shoals’ entry level workforce in just two or three years, so it is important for them to know about how to prepare during that time.
“Perhaps even more importantly, these students found out about careers they didn’t even realize existed,” explained Shoals Chamber Vice President of Workforce Readiness,

Stephanie Newland

. “This in turn helps Shoals-area businesses utilize a future workforce that is aware of the opportunities right here in the Shoals.”
In addition to the Career Fair, the students participated in Job Skills Seminars. Business and community volunteers spoke with students about interview skills, resume writing, social media etiquette, how to dress for success and other important job-seeking skills.
Sponsors and partners of this event included Northwest-Shoals Community College, Wells Fargo Foundation, Listerhill Credit Union, Alabama Cooperative Extension System – Lauderdale County office, Florence City Schools, CrossPoint Church of Christ, Lauderdale RSVP and many business and community volunteers and exhibitors.
