Shirley Sue Cook, age 86, passed away in the early Morning hours of April 6, 2024. She was born on July 16, 1937 in Morgan County, AL. Shirley graduated from Cotaco High School and she served as the chairperson for the Morgan County Health Council during the late 70s and early 80s. During her time as chairperson, she worked tirelessly to open and manage the East Morgan Health Clinic and institute the Morgan County Clean up. Shirley also implemented Morgan County’s Meals-On-Wheels program. She received numerous awards for her dedication to her community. Shirley was a member of Center Springs Methodist Church’s choir and sang tenor for the Powers Family gospel group. She also wrote and recorded two gospel albums. Shirley is survived by her husband, Billy Mack Cook, who she married in 1955, her two sons and their wives, Quinn and Laura Cook and Blake and Paige Cook, her five grandchildren, Justine Layne, Daniel Cook, Jonathan Cook, Jarrod Cook, and Mallorie Whitten, and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held and Center Springs United Methodist Church in Somerville on Monday. April 8, 2024 at 11:00AM with Bro. Michael Mason and Bro. Chris Nabors officiating with burial in the Red Oak Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:30PM-7:00PM at Center Springs United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Daniel Cook, John Whitten, Cellar Irvin, Milan Cayce, David Pittman , and Marty Turney.
