Shirley Sandlin Edge, beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend stepped into eternity on September 20, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was born September 12, 1936, to Joe and Emogene Sandlin in Saltillo, Mississippi. She married the love of her life, Travis Edge in 1956 and they were married 56 years before his death in 2012.
Shirley loved and served God with all her heart. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Saltillo and although she moved to Memphis in 2017, she never lost her love and commitment to her church. She spent 22 years serving as a faithful leader in Community Bible Study during her time in Birmingham and made many lifelong friends there as well.
Her greatest joy was her family. Her three sons adored her and each of the grandchildren have special memories of precious times spent at her house and the special way she loved each of them. The great grandchildren have been the joy of her life in recent years. She had a special talent for making everyone feel special and loved. Her family will miss her but rejoices in the knowledge that she is completely healed and worshipping at the feet of her Savior.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Travis Edge, and her son, Mike Edge. She leaves her sons, Garry (Sandra) Edge and Tim Edge, and a daughter-in law, Gay Edge. She also leaves four grandchildren, Amy (Russ) Bingham, Amanda Edge, Jennifer (Matthew) Parker and Jeffrey Edge and seven great grandchildren to cherish her memory.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Ronnie Hatfield officiating. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at W.E. Pegues, Saltillo. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Saltillo, 311 Mobile Street, Saltillo MS 38866.
