Shirley Mae (Smith) Melton died Sunday, October 15, 2023, at her home in Stantonville, Tennessee. Shirley was born on October 9, 1936, in Stantonville to Curry and Berline Smith. She grew up in the Mt. Vinson/Stantonville area until high school when her father moved to Washington, Illinois where she completed school. On October 2, 1954, Shirley married her sweetheart Maxwell Melton of Mt. Vinson in Corinth, Mississippi.

Shirley and Max loved square dancing and traveled across the country dancing. She loved sewing, cooking, and caring for people in her community. She was a member of Mt. Vinson United Methodist Church. Shirley was an active member of the Mt. Vinson community and was a caregiver and a leader in the community She coordinated monthly community breakfasts, meals for grieving families, and decoration days. Shirley spent many hours taking community members to doctor appointments in Jackson and Memphis.

Shirley is survived by her husband Max Melton of Stantonville and her only child Debbie Webb and her spouse Silas Webb of Stantonville. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bill Smith and Roger Smith.

Shirley is survived by her siblings, Brenda (Smith) Tabor of Creve Coeur, Illinois, and Tom Smith of Springfield, Illinois as well as sister-in-laws, Dorothy Smith of Waynesville, Illinois, and Cathy Smith of Bloomington, Illinois; grandchildren, Stacy (Webb) Reaves and spouse George Reaves of Jenks, Oklahoma, Chuck Webb and spouse Gina Webb of Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, and Stephanie Webb of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In addition, Shirley is survived by several great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Shirley Reaves of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Nicholas Webb stationed in Honolulu, HI, Camille Reaves, and Claire Reaves of Jenks, Oklahoma.
