Shirley Mae Mary Paul passed away Sunday. Her late husband, Major Thomas B. Paul moved his family in 1967 to Huntsville after he retired from the Army and was working for the Bendix Corporation.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Faith Community, Bicentennial Chapel, Redstone Arsenal, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She served as Coordinator of the Good Samaritan Ministry at Our Lady of the Valley, a ministry dedicated to the sick and terminally ill, and did bereavement work with families of deceased parishioners for over 14 years. Mrs. Paul was a former volunteer with Hospice Family Care, the Catholic Center of Concern, and was a Wednesday volunteer at Saint Vincent De Paul Thrift Store from 1996 to 2005. She worked in the UAH Governmental Relations Office from 1982 to 1991.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Paul, and her daughter, Lynda Paul, her parents, Henry Oesterheld and Dorothy Mitchell Oesterheld, and her sisters, Dorothy C. Williams and Vivian Jaczina, and grandson-in-law, Patrick Flynn.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Marti (Terry) of Huntsville; her son, Thomas Wayne Paul (Allison) of Newark, NY; her grandchildren, Kristy Flynn of Birmingham, Jonathan Neely (Janeen) of New Market, Colonel Michael Marti (Tanya) of Annapolis, MD, and Brett Beynon of NY; great-grandchildren, Emma and Reagan Flynn, Jack and Violet Marti, Samantha Hayden, and Whittney Payment; and four nieces and two nephews.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, December 21st at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will follow at the church with Father Michael Mac Mahon officiating. The graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or Hospice of North Alabama.
