Shirley Geno Lyons departed this life on October 16, 2024 at her little cottage by her son’s home surrounded by her family following a period of declining health due to dementia. She was born on November 21, 1935 in Booneville to the late J.C. and Esther Geno. She was always proud and held strong to her Booneville roots.
Shirley was life-long member of East Main Church of Christ in Tupelo where she served as secretary for many years. She was an avid poet and enjoyed reciting her poems, winning numerous awards.
She left behind three children Sharon Palmer of Fulton, George T. “Sonny” Lyons (Ann), Sandy Lyons; and a brother, Marlon Geno all of Tupelo. She had eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two nephews and a host of other extended family and friends, including her life-long friend, Patrilla Mattox.
She was preceded in death by her parents; the father of her children, George T. Lyons Sr.; and a sister-in-law, Gail Geno.
Honorary pallbearers are George Thomas Lyons, III, Mike Clifton, Brooks Crabtree, Clayton Garner, Sr., Clayton Garner, Jr., Ridge Hutcherson and Joe Raper.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024 at Andrews Chapel Cemetery with Pegues Funeral Directors in charge of the service.
The family will always be grateful for the wonderful, compassionate caregivers at Sanctuary Hospice.
