A Funeral Service for Shirley Faye McDonald Black, 78, will be Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor John Luckie and Rev. Billy East will be officiating. Burial will follow at the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Black moved to Virginia in her later years, was formerly of Ashland, and grew up in Cragford. She moved to Guntersville after high school and moved back to Clay County in 1972 and raised her family here. She was a nurse’s aide for over 30 years at many local nursing homes and was also a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Protestant Bible Church.
Mrs. Black is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Burns (Chris); son Randy Black (Lyn)two step-sons, David Black (Juanita) and Jeffrey Black; step-daughter, Sandra Nooney (Pat); five grandchildren, L. J. Lamberth, Joy Lankford (Lee), Jerrica Dauphin (Eric), Alyssa Black and Alex Black; nine step-grandchildren, David Black, Jr. (Josalyn), Bobbie Lee Gilbert (Scott), Brandon Tubbs, Michelle Smith (Michael), Jennifer Nelson (Landon), Amy Pate (Dyllon), Chase Henderson, Katie Henderson and Cody Black; six great-grandchildren, Madison Pallone, Leyla Pallone, McKayla Pallone, Tyler Pallone, Hayleigh Pallone and Aerabella Dauphin and a number of step-great-grandchildren; six brothers, Vernon McDonald, Clarence McDonald, Calvin McDonald, James McDonald and George McDonald and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law who were more like sisters.
She was the daughter of the late Earl and Leola McDonald and she was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Black; a step-daughter and her husband, Darlene and Tommy Tubbs; a great-grandson, Tanner Pallone and a brother, Willard McDonald.
Pallbearers will be Dyllon Pate, Michael Smith, Eric Dauphin, James (LJ) Lamberth, Ryan Jones, Tyler Pallone and Alex Black.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Southside Regional Medical Center for the loving care shown to Mrs. Black and to them during her time spent there.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:30-8:00 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville.
A separate Celebration of Life service will be held 3 p.m., Saturday, October 21 at Purdy Baptist Church in Virginia.
