Shirley Donaldson Likos, 93, of Birmingham passed away on Saturday. She was born in Washington, D.C. to Linwood E. Donaldson and Mabel Shultz Donaldson. She attended high school and worked for patent lawyers during her teenage years. She met Lieutenant JG Steven C. Likos while working in a bank that served the Washington Naval Yard. They were married in September 1946 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.
Steve and Shirley moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1955 and were active at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity and involved in Cursillo. Shirley worked as registrar at Lee High School in the early 1970s. She served as President for the Huntsville Hospital Auxiliary and as a member for over ten years. Her happiest times were preparing meals for her family and enjoying Auburn football games.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Lyles (Ken) of Huntsville; son, Mark S. Likos (Sharon) of Birmingham; son, Eric S. Likos of Birmingham; “son”, Daniel Adomitis (Johnine); four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She and our family were blessed to have the care and love of Loretta Greenwood over the past ten years. Their friendship was an enduring bond. We are also grateful for St. Stephens’ Care Team including Lauri, Lois, and Leslie.
A graveside service for family and close friends will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pastoral Care program of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Birmingham.
