Shirley Dean Smith Hornbuckle was born April 13, 1936 in McNairy County, TN the daughter of the late Guy Phillip and Minola Pearl Dickey Smith.
She was united in marriage to Manford Hornbuckle on March 10, 1958. Mr. Hornbuckle preceded her in death on January 27, 2015, following 57 years of marriage.
Mrs. Hornbuckle formerly worked in the garment industry. She was also employed for a time with Brown Shoe Company in Selmer and was a babysitter, but her primary role was that of a homemaker and caregiver for her family, whom she loved very much. She was a faithful member of the Stantonville Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. Mrs. Hornbuckle also loved to read and enjoyed music.
Mrs. Hornbuckle departed this life on August 5, 2015 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 79 Years, 3 Months, 23 Days. She is survived by four daughters: Linda Yochem and husband Charles of Warrenton, VA, Teressa Campbell and husband Monty of Etowah, TN, Donna Stowell of Savannah, TN, and Amy Vaughn and husband Ken of Athens, TN; two sons, Robert Hornbuckle and wife Teresa of Adamsville, TN and David Hornbuckle of Stantonville, TN; nine grandchildren: Brandon Warner and wife Erika, Bridgette Smith, Brittany Campbell, Brian Stowell and wife Buffy, Robin Stowell, Ashley Bates, Kristen Vaughn, Bradley Hornbuckle, and Brandy Hornbuckle; 8 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); two sisters, Ruby Jamerson and husband Gene of Etowah, TN and Bonnie Ruth Freeman of Detroit, MI; and many more extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Hornbuckle was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Hornbuckle; two sisters, Barbara June Goodman and Willa McKay Hornbuckle; and two brothers, William Douglas Smith and a brother who died in infancy.
