Sherry Jean Slaton Patton Putman, age 85, of Florence, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Visitation will be Friday, November 17, at Williams Funeral Home at 12:00 noon with Pastor-Bro. Bill Harper Officiating, Services will be at 1pm in the chapel. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Sherry was born April 28, 1938, to Leslie and Reba Slaton of Rogersville, AL, Sherry will always be remembered for her great nursing care as an R.N. at Colonial Manor Hospital and then at Wise Alloys after she retired. Sherry told the funniest jokes and marched in life to her own drummer and was not content to sit and let the parade pass her by. She had a spirit that embraced change. Her daughters remember her great love and pride she had for them both.
She is preceded in death by her deceased husbands, Charles A. Patton and Gene Putman, parents Leslie and Reba Slaton.
Sherry never met a stranger and embraced all with her great sense of humor. One instance was where when she decided she wanted a swimming pool and her husband Charles A. did not. She told him “Don’t fall in the hole in the backyard when you come home from work today honey”. Sherry and Charles A. eventually had that hole filled in with dirt years later. Not content to just be an R.N., thru the years she sold everything from Tupperware, Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Stanley and etc. to foundation garments. She was able to travel, read and go to thrift/antique stores. She lived in seven different homes in Florence, AL. She also bought the heaviest pieces of furniture and made a wonderful cream cheese pie and chicken & dumplings. She was a great cook, friend and Mother.
She is survived by her daughters Karen Patton Landry (Larry) and Alicia Patton, her sister Linda Slaton Davis McAfee and many beloved cousins, relatives, friends and little Bella.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Davis, Chris McAfee, Tucker McAfee, Chris Sockwell, Eli Sockwell, Jake Sockwell
