Sherman Lee King, age 70 of Sewanee, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born in Sewanee on November 5, 1953, to the late Elvin and Barbara (O’Dear) King. Before his retirement, he was employed by the University of the South as a maintenance electrician. An avid outdoorsman, Sherman enjoyed hunting and fishing. He cherished the time spent with his beloved family and friends, particularly enjoying attending his grandchildren’s events as well as weekly trivia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold King and Houston King. Sherman is survived by his loving children, Lori (Frank) Quigley of Iron City, Joe King of Sewanee, Isaac (Barbara) King of Sewanee, and Tanner King of Sewanee; siblings, Caroline Bennett, Jasper King, Leonard (Anita Marie) King, Lois (Fred) Bramlett, Peggy Cash, and Sarah Gunn; grandchildren, Kayela West, Sabrina King, Ashton West, Hunter King, Nathan King, Kaden King, Madison King, Johnathan Quigley, Hannah King, Jamison Quigley, and Bryce King; and great-grandchildren, Arya Smith, Audrey Ekis, and Matthew David King. Visitation will be from 11 am-1pm on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 pm in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with Pastor Kenny Green officiating. Interment will be at O’Dear Cemetery in Sewanee.
