Sherman H. Shields, 83, of Huntsville, passed away Friday. Born in Harvest, AL near the Tennessee line, Sherman was raised in the country and loved being a country boy.
His first job was driving a school bus at the age of 15, and he worked at his parent’s grocery store. He and his brother had a company together. Sherman later started Shields Contracting, which included building homes and finishing sheetrock. His first love was refinishing antiques.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Shields; sons, Sherman “Chip” Shields, Jr. (Heidi), and Stewart Shields (Heather); daughter, Leah Childers Lovell (Phillip); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Kenneth Shields (Janet). He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Laura Shields, daughter, Kristina Childers Smith, and sisters, Shirley McDonald and Pam Clutts.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Valley United Methodist Church. The funeral will follow at the church with the Rev. Wren Clanton and the Rev. Stephen Hampton officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery.
