Shelia Jo Payne Turner, daughter of George and Velma Payne, was born in Russellville, AL on February 26, 1947, and peacefully passed away on the evening of August 18, 2022. Shelia resided for most of her life in Huntsville, Alabama where she met and married the love of her life, Horace Turner, and was blessed with six children, 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Shelia was a talented seamstress, jewelry maker, and crafter. Shelia enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many lifelong friends. She was loved by all who knew her and would never turn down the opportunity to help when she could.

Shelia is survived by her mother, Velma Payne; sons, Lyell Turner (Jamie), Kyell Turner (Kimberly), H. Quitman Turner III (Carrie), Zachary Turner (Melissa), and Benjamin Turner (Rachael); daughter, Desiree’ Maurice (Michael); sixteen grandchildren, Courtney Wells (Justin), Kayla Logan (Tom), Gavin Turner (Brandi), Emma Turner, McKenzie Butler (Isaac), Ethan Turner, Evan Turner, Madeline Turner, Sydney Turner, Asher Maurice, Avery Maurice, Lucas Turner, Quade Turner, Adler Turner, Elijah Turner, and Sophia Turner; five great-grandchildren, Carson Wells, Bentley Wells, Cade Logan, Emery Logan, and Hadleigh Wells; brothers, John Payne (Cathy), William Payne (Susan), and Gentry Payne (Eloise); and aunt, Wilkilene Smith. Shelia was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Horace Quitman Turner, Jr.; her father, George Payne; and her beloved dog, Bella.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. with Father Joe Lubrano officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shelia’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice Family Care.
