Shelby Jean Nix, 75, of Leighton, passed away Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012. Her family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9-11 a.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel. Brother Truman Sutton will officiate the funeral beginning at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Colbert Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Luther Nix Jr.
Jean was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She loved flea marketing, fishing and spending time with her family and friends. All who tasted her meals agree she was an excellent cook.
She is survived by her sons, Ronald Nix (Glenda) and Johnny Nix (Sherry); daughters, Susan Riley (Randy), Sharon Heath and Mary Ann Grigsby (Dan); brothers, Melvin Box (Marie) and Marlow Box (Mary Jean); sister, Donna Llewellyn (Dwight); 14 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Jean’s grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society .
