Shelba Austin Adomyetz, age 86 of Cloverdale, went home to be with Jesus on November 22, 2023, after an extended illness. Visitation will be held at Grace Bible Church on Monday, November 27th from 12-2. A celebration service will follow with Bryan McIntyre and Gary Cosby officiating. Burial will be at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Shelba was a loving wife to Charles for over 53 years. She taught school for 32 years, most of that in fourth grade. Her former students remember her for making Alabama history come alive, We had to labor every morning copying song lyrics off the chalkboard which we later learned to sing in class. She read the classics to us after lunch everyday and we begged for “just one more chapter.” (Yes, she did teach her own child for one year.) Most will tell you she was one of their favorite teachers. Shelba learned to play piano at a young age. Southern gospel was a favorite, but she loved all kinds of music. In her last years she could still play by ear. Shelba was passionate about her faith. She was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary for more than 30 years. After she retired, she enjoyed community bible study, eventually serving as a core leader for several seasons. Shelba loved to cook for her family and anybody else that happened to stop by at mealtime. She loved spending time with her kids and grandson. She and Charles were blessed to enjoy many road trips with their friends while they still had good health.
The family would like to thank Green Oaks Inn, Brittany Michael, CRNP, the staff at Amedisys and Southern Care hospice. If you helped take care of Shelba in any capacity, she loved you and so do we. Thank you for walking with us through this difficult journey. The care and compassion has been exceptional. We have been so blessed. All of you are like family. Most of all, we thank the one who gave us life. Our time here on Earth is only a tiny drop in the ocean. In this season of Thanksgiving we are so grateful for our wonderful memories. We know that even in death we can rejoice because we know where she is. We will see her again!
Shelba is survived by one daughter, Cindy Wright and husband Chuck of Florence; one son, Tim Adomyetz of Yukon, OK; one grandson, Joey Wright. Shelba leaves behind one brother, Paul Austin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Adomyetz; and parents Douglas and Ruth Abramson Austin.
Pallbearers will be family. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. 336, Florence, AL 35631 to place Bibles around the world.
