SHEFFIELD
– S.H.S. used to participate in the National BEST Robotics competitions until a few years ago, when they lost their teacher/mentor. And so, Mrs. Mary Stephens and the Shoals Chamber of Commerce, coordinator of BEST Robotics got together and began planning a strategy to have the city students get back in the program with the other schools in The Shoals. An organizational meeting was held last week at the Library with BEST coordinators from other parts of North Alabama, members of the Sheffield School System and other interested persons.

It looks like a go. According to the website, NW Alabama BEST Robotics Competition for middle & high schools is a partnership between the Shoals Chamber of Commerce & Northwest-Shoals Community College. Teams have 6-weeks to design and build a competitive robot to meet the game challenge, which changes every year. BEST has the excitement of a championship basketball game with stands full of screaming fans, music, mascots, bands, tailgating on the grounds and TONS OF FUN for the whole family!
