SHEFFIELD-Sheffield and Tennessee Valley Authority officials held a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, April 8th to commemorate completion of a project to stabilize the parking lot and increase the boating pier at Riverfront Park.
The work took place to solved a problem that was causing portions of the parking lot to erode into Pickwick Lake. The work on the pier will make it easier for boaters and anglers to load and unload their boats.
A grant from the Sport Fish Restoration Program, through Alabama Department of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, provided most of the money for the $260,000 project. That money came from federal taxes paid by anglers when they purchase fishing tackle.
TVA and the City of Sheffield also helped pay for the project.
