Shawnee Hardeman Rains, age 61, of the Asbury Community, passed away on January 4, 2025, at UAB Medical Center. She was born on November 13, 1963, to the late Gladston and Ruby Jean Hardeman. Shawnee dedicated over 31 years of her life to teaching at Asbury Elementary, where she touched the lives of countless students and colleagues. She was a devoted member of Mt. High Missionary Baptist Church.
Shawnee is survived by her loving husband, Mark Rains; her son, Seth Rains; her sister, Kelly Priest (Jeff); her nieces, Marcie (JT), Tennelle (Charlie), Katie, and Ashley (Jonathan); her nephews, Bradley (Brittany), Nicholas (Kristina), and Devin (Brooke); as well as a host of cherished great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Nickie Hardeman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Adams Brown Service Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 7, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Bro. Roy Miller and Bro. Tex Martin will officiate the services. Pallbearers assisting in her final journey to Asbury Cemetery will include Dylan Lee, Justin Childress, Devin Priest, Nicholas Hardeman, Jonathan Kittle, and Bradley Rains.
Shawnee’s warmth, dedication, and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
