Sharlan Layne Grant – Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Sharlan Layne Grant, 55, resident of the Walnut Lake Community and U.S. Navy Veteran, passed away peacefully of natural causes Tuesday morning March 6, 2018 at her residence in Walnut.
A Visitation honoring the life of Sharlan will be from 3 PM to 5 PM Monday March 12 in The Heritage Chapel of Ripley Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors will be at 9:30 AM Tuesday March 13 in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. The Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A native of Texas, Sharlan was born August 2, 1962, the daughter of the late Milton and Carole Sue Green Coleman.
She was a graduate of Dyersburg High School, continued her education at The University of Memphis and proudly served her country in the U.S. Navy. On December 15, 1995 she married Williamsburg, PA native, Greg Grant, an employee of Emcor/ Walker J Walker Commercial Heating and AC in Memphis and U.S. Army Veteran.
A homemaker throughout her life, Sharlan was employed as a graphic design artist while stationed in the U.S. Navy and continued working until she moved with her family to Tippah County. In earlier years, she enjoyed volunteering as a basketball coach to the five and six year old children at White Station Elementary School in Memphis.
A Christian, Sharlan will be remembered for the love she had for her family, grandchildren and the outdoors that included her flower gardens. The wonderful memories she gave her family and friends will be cherished always and she will live on forever in their hearts.
In addition to her husband, those left to treasure her memory include her children, Brooke Harmon (Mark) of Alta Vista, VA and Zachery Grant, stationed with the U.S. Army at Fort Benning, GA, two grandchildren, Alexis and Wesley Harmon, one sister, two brothers and a host of other relatives throughout Texas and Tennessee.
The American Flag at The Ripley Funeral Home entrance honors Sharlan, her husband and all Veteran for their service to our country…GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!
