Borderline: Chicano Voices Speak (Exhibition and Events Series

 August 22 – September 30, 2023 

Chicano Voices Speak is a carefully curated exhibition created by the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art over the past year. It offers viewers the opportunity to consider the cultural, social and political intersections of the United States and Mexico, the establishment and maintenance of cultural identity and the physical and social borders that exist between them. The artists invited to participate are from across the United States and identify as Chicano/x, Hispanic, Latino/x or work with the subject of immigration and culture. The artists include: Juan Fuentes, Carlos Barberena, Celeste De Luna, Diego Marcial Rios, Eugene Rodriguez, Fernando marti, Frank Estrada, Raoul Deal and Favianna Rodriguez.

Jeepin the Saloon

September 2-4, 2023

Get ready for an action-packed Labor Day weekend from September 2nd to 4th at our exclusive Jeep-only event! Join us for Sponsor Appreciation from 6 pm to 7 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, followed by an exciting Raffle Drawing at the same time on Sunday. Remember, you must be present to win, and this year, you can purchase extra Raffle tickets for a chance to win from the generous donations. All Raffle Ticket proceeds will go to a charity that will be revealed closer to the event, so stay tuned for this big announcement.

Shoals Area Labor Day Festival

The Shoals Area Labor Day Celebration is the nation’s oldest labor union gathering. The celebration will feature a lively parade beginning at 10 am on Main Street in Tuscumbia, a car show from 11-4, and food trucks, live music, raffles, and more all from 11-4 pm.

Coon Dog Cemetery Labor Day Celebration

September 4, 2023

A unique festival is held each Labor Day at the only cemetery of its kind in the world. While visiting the graves of several World Champion coon dogs, you can also enjoy a day full of old timey bluegrass music, buck dancing, a liar’s contest, and barbeque catered by nearby Bishop’s Barbeque. This celebration is a testament to tradition and the bond between humans and their faithful companions, taking place from 10 am – 3 pm.

Oka Kapassa: Return to Cold Water Native American Festival,

September 8-9, 2023

Join the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area for their next volunteer event! They’ll be cleaning and organizing the Village School by various interior sections and preparing for the next phases of restoration. This may include cleaning, scraping, and painting; they’ll provide supplies and direction, with no experience necessary.

Second Saturdays  

September 9, 2023

Join us for Second Saturday on Main Street, this time with a focus on the environment! Don’t miss the ribbon-cutting ceremony for our new EV Chargers behind Superhero Chefs and the Palace. The Artist Co-Op opens at 5:00 PM, featuring the best vendors in the Shoals. Enjoy live performances by Patrice Brown’s Music Students from 6-7 and The Domogolla Project from 7-9.

29th Annual Trail of Tears  

September 16, 2023

This annual motorcycle ride pays respectful tribute to the celebrated route once taken by the Cherokee Indians. Included in this ride are American Indian pow-wows and various activities such as drumming and dancing, vendors in Waterloo, and many stops all along the Trail of Tears. This is held each year on the 3rd Saturday in September and offers free live entertainment.

Public Stargazing at Lagrange   

September 16, 2023

Join members of Shoals Astronomy Club at LaGrange College Site Park in Leighton for a night sky tour on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Weather permitting, the roof will roll off the historic LaGrange Observatory at 6:30 p.m., and amateur astronomers will curate a night sky tour as darkness falls. There is no fee to attend, but donations will be accepted.

Scooters for Hooters Poker Run,   

September 30, 2023

A day of riding, music, and community, all in support of a great cause. Registration starts at 9:00 AM, followed by the exciting kickstands up (KSU) at 10:00 AM. The entry fee is just $20 per bike, which includes entry into our thrilling Poker Run, where you can test your riding skills and luck for some fantastic prizes. Plus, don’t forget to try your luck in our 50/50 drawing for a chance to win big. As the sun sets, enjoy the rocking tunes of the LA Outlaws on the big stage. So, gather your friends, rev up your engines, and ride with us as we raise funds and awareness for an important cause.
