FLORENCEThe Honorable Alabama State Senator Tammy Irons, District 1, donated $1,000 to the Tennessee
Valley Historical Society (TVHS) and University of North Alabama (UNA) Scholarship Endowment Fund.
The long standing TVHS/UNA scholarship endowment fund partnership comprising the Society’s initial $25,000 contribution resulting in a UNA matching grant of equal value guarantees, on an annual basis, scholarship awards to 1st and 2nd place High School Seniors of $750 and $500 respectively; the Junior is awarded $250 and is eligible to participate in the following year’s competition. This year’s 29th annual scholarship competition held at UNA’s Guillot Center Auditorium on March 8, 2013, witnessed 141 students competing for the three awards, more than double the turnout of previous years.
Congratulations are extended to this year’s winners Raleigh Killen ($750) Rogers High School; Zeb Williams ($500) – Lincoln High; and Allison Rieff ($250) of Florence High School.
Senator Irons’ donation, plus UNA’s matching grant, raising the fund level to $2,000 triggers a new fund raising campaign effort of which all institutions, churches, commercial, private sector, philanthropists and other community partners are invited to contribute by visiting UNA’s site at WWW.UNA.EDU/History to access the UNA endowment fund donations link.
