SEDA announces retention of some once-lost jobs announces growth in another Shoals company

seda 09062014_MG_4761FLORENCE – In a year when stories of area factories closing and lots of employees getting their pink slips, there was a welcomed announcement today. The Shoals Industrial Development Committee announced that MS Metal Solutions and Consolidated Tool are putting a big investment into  The Shoals.

MS Metal Solutions, of Grand Haven, Michigan is taking over “izzy+”, a custom metal and wood fabrication company in Florence. When izzy+ announced the closure earlier this year, The Shoals was slated to lose about 190 jobs. Today’s announcement revealed that the metal-fabricating side of the business is being taken over by MS Metal Solutions, saving about 90 jobs. they plan to invest around $3-million in the facility as they expand production here.

The other company, Consolidated Tool, Inc., of Muscle Shoals is expanding. Consolidated Tool was purchased about 6 years ago by the Gemini Group of of Bad Axe, Michigan. Today it was announced that they are expanding their facility, and are in the beginning stages of a 4-year expansion. Gemini Group is a leading supplier of engineered plastic and metal products. Their new facility will be located in the Industrial Air Park in Muscle Shoals.

The oversight board of SEDA, the Shoals Industrial Development Committee, approved $125-thousand for for MS Metal Solutions and $50-thousand Consolidated Tool.

In the final agenda item was the FY-2015 SEDA budget request of $710-thousand. The Board approved the request.
