IMG_4885 copyTHE SHOALS – From all accounts, Northwest Shoals Regional Airport is headed for a successful conclusion in its search for a reliable air carrier from our community to a major hub airport.

Tuesday, at the Shoals Chamber of Commerce’s Air Services Committee meeting, Airport Director, Barry Griffith said that February’s aircraft boardings, despite some inclement weather are showing good growth. In fact, he said that the 4 flights a day to Nashville’s BNA Airport are getting good reviews from passengers. “Several people have spoken to me in the last month saying how great it is to get to Nashville to make their connecting flights,” Griffith told the Committee.

There were some cancellations when the runway was iced over, but by and large everything on the flight line was working pretty well.

SeaPort’s Dalton Sullivan did indicate that there were 3 non-weather related flight cancellations for routine maintenance, but no passengers missed their connections in Nashville. It was a simple matter of taking one of the other 3 flights that day from The Shoals.

Sullivan and Griffith told Chamber Committee Members that if boardings continue to increase, as they expect they will, the FAA will approve further grants to keep a connecting airline in The Shoals.
