Scott Lyon Henninger, 90, passed away Feb. 12, 2017. He was born Sept. 15, 1926, in Tuscumbia, AL. He graduated from Deshler High School and attended Auburn University where he was member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and later attended Florence State Teachers College. Scott served in the United States Coast Guard and the U.S. Army. He was co owner of Henninger, Johnson, and Layton Insurance Agency.
Scott was a lifetime member of Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church where he served faithfully in several capacities. He was an active member of numerous civic organizations including Tuscumbia Kiwanis Club, Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, Lions Club, Salvation Army, The Young Men’s Club, and Civitan Club.
Scott is survived by his wife of 66 years Mary Lou Bullock Henninger; sons Stephen John Henninger (Jan); William Scott Henninger (Tammy); daughter Ann Henninger Hamilton (Bryon); grandchildren Andrew Tucker, Megan Tucker, Natalie (Wade) Longmire, Stephen Henninger, Amy (Michael) Garber, and A.J. (Mark) Hubbard.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alleeth Chitwood Henninger and Ethan John Henninger and his sister Marye Shirley Maize.
Pallbearers will be Judson Emmons, Tyson Johnson, Chip Maize, Joel Parris, Bill Purnell and Mike Stumpe.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men’s Fourth Thursday Lunch Group: Walker Kirkland, Harold Maples, Marshall Snyder, Joe Ware and Jack Woods.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church from 12:00 until 2:00 with the service following in the sanctuary with Rev. Rudy Guess officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army or Tuscumbia First United Methodist Church.
