Sarah Walters Stanfill, 97, retired employee of Tennessee Knitting Mills and resident of New Highway 7, died Thursday, January 31, 2019 at her daughter’s residence.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Rev. Anthony Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Knob Creek Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Born November 16, 1921 in Maury County, she was the daughter of the late Bracken Hensley Walters and the late Lillian McKee Walters. Her husband J. D. Stanfill, retired employee of Union Carbide, preceded her in death on September 9, 1990. Mrs. Stanfill always had a smile for everyone. She was a caring and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, who was always willing to help in any way possible. Her energetic spirit and kind heart will be dearly missed. She was a lifetime member of Knob Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Larry) Weaver; son, Randy (Cathy) Stanfill; grandchildren, Kristen Stanfill, Lori Weaver, Clint Weaver; brothers, Leon (Mildred) Walters and Billy (Peggy) Walters; brothers-in-law, Jack (Betty) Stanfill and Kelley Strickland; and several nieces and nephews in the Walters and Stanfill families.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Polly Strickland and Bettie Little; and five brothers, Howard Walters, Raymond Walters, Bracken Walters, Jr., Ralph Walters, and Joseph Randolph Walters.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Walters, Mike Walters, Buster Walters, Alan Faulkner, Larry Walters, and Enoch George. Honorary pallbearers will include members of Knob Creek Baptist Church, Dr. Shawn Reed and Maury Regional Health Group, Peggy Truelove, Allene Scott, and Billy McKennon.
