Sarah L. Stewart passed away at the age of 77 on August 16, 2024, with her beloved daughter by her side.
Sarah was born on July 12, 1947, in Stevenson, Alabama, to Charles “Lindsey” Stewart and Maude Howard Stewart. She was the youngest of eight children.
After graduating high school in 1965, Sarah moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she dedicated years working in the hospitality industry. Although she took pride in her work, she regarded her most important achievement in life as raising her two beloved daughters.
In 2013, she returned to her hometown of Stevenson, where she enjoyed a simple and fulfilling life for several years. In 2020, Sarah became a resident at Cumberland Health in Bridgeport, AL where she was affectionately known as “Sassy Stewart” by the caring staff who surrounded her.
Sarah was known for her giving nature and quick sense of humor. Sarah never met a stranger. She had a unique ability to connect with everyone she met. She displayed a remarkable strength of will throughout her life, carrying that determination with her until her final days.
Sarah loved spending time in nature and had a soft heart for animals. She also had a strong desire to help others in need, always living by the golden rule: ‘Treat others the way you want to be treated.’
Sarah is preceded in death by her cherished daughter, Cynthia Mann-Nelms, her parents, and her three sisters and four brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Regina Mallory (Robert) of McDonough, Georgia, and her two grandchildren, Matthew Mallory of Atlanta, Georgia and Lauren Mallory of Dahlonega, Georgia. Her grandchildren were a source of great joy in her life, and she played an integral role in their upbringing.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family. She will be laid to rest at Pinehaven Memorial Gardens in Hollywood, AL. A celebration of life event will be held for Sarah at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Rescue of North Alabama, fulfilling one of Sarah’s last wishes. Donations can be made at https://ghhs.org/.
