The graveside service for Sarah Helen Collier, 90, of Athens will be Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Athens City Cemetery with David Cox officiating and McConnell Funeral Home directing. There will be no visitation.

Mrs. Collier passed away Monday May 11, 2015, at her son’s residence. She was born October 25, 1924, in Limestone County to Lucius Davis Cary and Mary P. Thomas Cary. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph H. Collier; one granddaughter, Kathryn Anne Collier; son-in-law, Marty Gilbert; two brothers and three sisters. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her son, Tim Collier and wife, Melia, of Athens; one daughter, JoAnn Gilbert of Athens; three sisters, Grace Whitmire of Decatur, Jean Griffin of Athens, Nell Campbell of Nashville, TN; one sister-in-law, Jane Cary of Decatur; one brother, L.D. “Buddy” Cary of Decatur; three grandchildren, Michael Winter and wife, Lauren, of Birmingham; Amanda Moore and (Chris) of Athens; Michael Gilbert and wife, Sarah, of Athens; eight great- grandchildren, Cary Moore, Madison Moore, Ainslee Moore, Everley Moore, Harper Winter, Brookes Winter, Isabella Grace Gilbert, Abigail Elise Gilbert and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Alabama, Copeland Presbyterian Church or Market Street Church of Christ.
