Sarah Elizabeth Jacobs Landers, age 98 of Decatur, passed peacefully Saturday,
October 28, 2023, at Limestone Nursing and Rehab in Athens surrounded by her family.
Sarah was born August 23, 1925, in Lawrence County. She lived most of her early life
on her family’s farm and graduated from Lawrence County High School. She attended
Massey Business School in Birmingham before starting her business career in Decatur,
where she worked primarily in the banking business. She was a long-serving member
and officer of PSI (Professional Secretaries Association). Sarah was a faithful Christian
and longtime member of Grant Street Church of Christ (now Decatur Church of Christ).
After retiring, she volunteered for Hospice of the Valley.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph W. Jacobs and Quilla Alexander
Jacobs, and her beloved husband of 56 years, Howard D. Landers. She is survived by
her son David H. Landers (Connie Whitt Landers) of Decatur, grandson Carson D.
Landers (Brittney Bullard Landers), and her great-grandchildren Ada Landers and
Bennett Landers, all of Hoover.
Funeral service will be Thursday, November 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Ridout’s Brown
Service Funeral Home in Decatur, with visitation prior to service from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Tommy Lovelady,
Ronnie Lovelady, Jerrold Landers, Barry Bean, Randy Lovelady, Tim Aldridge, and
Michael Landers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Sarah’s memory to Decatur
Church of Christ, Hospice of the Valley, or your favorite charity.
