Sarah Denson Griffin, 86, passed away on December 2, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital—Golden Triangle, in Columbus, Mississippi, following a brief illness. She is survived by her children Mark, Scott Tracy (Lisa), and Sarah Katharine VanBeber (Jerry), grandchildren Kathleen and Ryan VanBeber, and extended family.

Sarah was born December 3, 1935, the only child of Homer G. and Zetta Denson of Booneville, Mississippi. She graduated from Booneville High School, where she was selected as their Homecoming Queen and voted Most Beautiful, Class Favorite, and “Most Likely to Become a Glamour Girl”.

Sarah married Jesse Earl Griffin, O.D., on June 6, 1954, and the couple settled in Starkville, Mississippi. She left her job at the Mississippi State University Extension Service to become a full-time mother and homemaker renowned for her extraordinary
cooking, and later worked for Alexander’s Home Health Agency in Starkville, Columbus, and West Point. Sarah was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Starkville. She enjoyed reading, gardening, birdwatching, raising exotic chickens and fowl, and her beloved German Shepherds.

Graveside services for Sarah Griffin will be Sunday, December 4, 1 p.m. at Memorial Garden Park in Oktibbeha County. She was preceded in death by Jesse and her parents.
