Sarah Carter King Lewis
August 10, 1932 – October 6, 2023

Sarah was born in Leighton, AL to Percy Madding King, Sr. and Laura Ward King on August 10, 1932. She died on October 6, 2023 at Southern Magnolia Assisted Living. After graduating from Colbert County High School in 1950, Sarah worked as a clerk-typist at Redstone Arsenal and as a homemaker. She loved to cook and was good at it. She also enjoyed playing bridge and dominos and entertaining, especially for her family on special occasions like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sarah was very proud that her son became a minister and was especially proud to have kept her nephew, Jay King, while he was small and growing up.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Martin K. Lewis, and by her parents. She is survived by her son, Dallas Culver (Melisha); three brothers, Percy King, Jr. (Lilly), William “Bill” King, and James “Jim” King (Marcia); two grandchildren, Caroline Mimbs (Garrison) and Austin Culver; three step-grandchildren, Shanna Stanford (Matt), Brandon Murphy (Emily), and Micah Murphy; two great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She joined Leighton United Methodist Church when she was six years old and has been a Methodist all her life. At the time of her death, she was a member of Latham Methodist Church where she enjoyed the Women’s Circle, the Elderberries, her Sunday School class and working in the nursery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023 at Leighton United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Dallan Culver officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery in Leighton, AL.
