Funeral service for Sarah “Betty” Hunter Blackwell, 82, of Decatur will be Saturday, March 2, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jeff Parker officiating and Ridout’s Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mrs. Blackwell, who died Thursday, February 28, 2013, was born May 3, 1930, in Morgan County to Esther Peter Hunter and John Robert Hunter. Betty graduated from Decatur High School in 1947 and attended Montevallo College. She retired from Decatur City Schools Central Office. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Decatur Junior Service League, Cotillion and Beta Sigma Phi. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack Hunter.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul Hundley Blackwell; one daughter, Amy Blackwell Ross (Tom); three sons, Paul Blackwell Jr. (Lauren), Bob Blackwell (Kay) and Greg Blackwell; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Anne Hunter Murphy; one brother, William E. Hunter; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hunter.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Aidan Blackwell, Ben Blackwell, Harris Blackwell, Hunter Blackwell, Jamie Blackwell and Gil Crane, Ray Frederick and Bob McKenzie.
