Mrs. Sara “Sally” Mundy, 88 of Hazel Green, went to be with the Lord on Thursday while at home with family. She was a devoted follower of Christ who loved Dr. Billy Graham and was a long-time member of Stateline United Methodist (now Genesis Methodist) Church in Hazel Green.
Sara was brought up in the Augusta, Georgia area where her family had lived for generations before her. She came to Hazel Green with her husband and their children in 1966 for her husband’s job on Redstone Arsenal. In addition to being a committed wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she worked for a number of years at Wells & Tate Electric where she learned to embrace the new technologies of the day in serving others.
In addition to the rich and meaningful life that she lived, Sara will be remembered for her compassionate heart, her generosity, her love for her fellow-man, her kindness and respect for everyone no matter who they were, her independence and intelligence, and for her love for chocolate ice cream.
Mrs. Mundy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Richard Mundy and her parents, Emory & Maurine Tankersley.
Surviving family members include her daughter and son-in-law, Deanne & Don Wimberly; Her son, Steve Emory Mundy; Her grandchildren: Dana Rogers, Dori Wimberly, and Connor Mundy; Her great-grandchildren: Carson Rogers and Caroline Rogers.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1pm until 3pm at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 3pm at the funeral home with Rev. Eddie Lones officiating. Burial will then be in Stateline Cemetery.
Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
