Boundless compassion, grace, warmth and kindness – the very image, Sara Ann Frank, passed away on June 7, 2023, at the age of 80. Sara Ann’s passion: Provide her loved ones the opportunity to pursue their passions, no matter how large or small. We would do well to carry on the beauty of her goodness and generosity.
Sara Ann was born on August 16, 1942, to Robert McGowan Hill and Martha Elizabeth Jordan Hill in Monroe, North Carolina. Here she would also meet her lifelong friend JoAlice Taylor Randall. She spent her early childhood in Monroe then moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and graduated from Myers Park High School in 1959. After high school, she maintained an interest in English, and attended the Peace College for Women in North Carolina. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1962, where she raised three children with Glenn Robinson. In Huntsville, she met her soulmate Buster Frank, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Sara Ann contained multitudes: “Gannie” or “Tiger”, a bon vivant, with sharp wit and a zest for life; she was the life of every gathering. She was a painter, a businesswoman, a teacher, and a visionary adopter of technology who loved the endless possibilities and opportunities provided by the internet. Most importantly, the joy she took in meeting and connecting with new people meant she was a friend to all and a shepherd for those in their moments of need. She was a member of the Grace Club Auxiliary which would later become the Junior League of Huntsville, taught Sunday school at First United Methodist and began selling real estate in 1977. She enjoyed a 42-year career selling real estate and would eventually become a Broker.
Sara Ann is survived by her three children, Glenn Albert Robinson, III (Elizabeth), Robert Christopher Robinson (Stacy), and Elizabeth Robinson Dyess (Scott); eight grandchildren, Caroline (Rob), Robert, Sam, Scooter, Sara Hill, Jack, Jeb, and Laurel Grace; and a great- grandchild, Zoey Lanoue. She also found such joy in being a godmother to Elizabeth Dotts Fleming (Patrick), and a namesake for Sara(h) Dotts Barley (Bo).
There are many memories she created and many incredible people she touched along the way, far too many to list on a single page. It’s enough to say this: when we hear the sound of the ocean float on the breeze into our rooms, or feel that musical energy that freshly coats the French Quarter, or even just see the simple joy and warmth that exists on Christmas morning, it means her love and memory will continue to live within us all.
In celebration of her life, a graveside service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, June 17, 2023 at half past 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Scholarship Funds, in honor of Sara Ann Frank, 120 Greene St., Huntsville, AL 35801. (https://huntsvillefirst.org/give/)
